PERSONALITIES
John Singer Sargeant once said, “A portrait is a painting where there is always something a little wrong about the mouth.” I agree. And yet what we get wrong is nothing compared to what we get right — a feeling about the person, an understanding of his or her internal life that comes from deep, sustained study that no photograph could ever display. Revealing that is for me the challenge and joy of portrait painting.
